R’Bonney Gabriel is the newest Queen to join the growing list of Miss Universe. Gabriel bested 86 women vying for the crown last January 15 at the pageant’s 71st anniversary.

Aside from being a proud Filipina Texan which she deliberately shared in one of her Television interviews with ABC News, did you know that Gabriel is also a fashion model and started sewing at the age of 15?

Here are other six facts that you need to know about the newly crowned Miss Universe Queen.

In October 2022, Gabriel told ABC News’ local affiliate in Houston: “My dad moved to America from the Philippines on a college scholarship with about $20 in his pocket. He wanted to pave a new life for himself. He met my mom in Texas, who is a country woman from Beaumont. I’m a very proud Filipina Texan.”

She is originally from Missouri City, Texas, and grew up in Houston with three older brothers. As the only girl of four siblings, she considers herself the baby of the family and often joked about being the favorite child.

Gabriel earned a degree in fashion design with a minor in fibers in 2018 from the University of North Texas.

She first started sewing at age 15 and fell in love with the process of constructing things out of fabrics and textiles.

After college, she went on to intern for fashion designer, Nicole Miller, in New York City

Based on her bio, she is an “eco-friendly fashion designer, sewing instructor for domestic violence survivors, artist helping women learn tools for success, advocate for sustainability in the fashion industry.”

R’Bonney is the oldest Miss USA in the pageant

R’Bonney’s National costume and long gown during her preliminary in Miss Universe were made by Filipino designers

Her national costume and dress for the evening gowns were also made by Filipino designers. Patrick Isorena created her large, heavy-looking costume. It was inspired by one of the world’s historic moments involving America—the first-time mankind walked on the moon. It was achieved by American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin in 1969.
