Lunar New Year is perhaps one of the most important tradition to enter the luxury fashion brand’s calendar. It has become an opportunity for luxury brands to produce capsule collections and campaigns solely dedicated to this purely Asian celebration.

With the Lunar New Year being just around the corner, we’ve rounded up the best capsule collection fashion houses have created to celebrate this auspicious season.

The Year of the Ox will commence this February 12th, there’s no excuse not to brush up for the occasion, especially with such a delightful selection of outfits and accessories to pick from – ranging from Gucci’s collaboration with Japanese manga character, Doraemon to Moschino’s cartoon ox.

BALENCIAGA

While most of the items are emblazoned with all-over prints in black and white, the collection which includes ready-to-wear separates, bags, and accessories features the baby ox motif in the mix.

You can count on Bottega to bringing in some vibrant and bold pieces this Lunar New Year that’ll set you instantly in the festive mood. The brand has also released exclusive colors for the Year of the Ox—The Shell bag, The Mini Twist, and The Belt Chain pouch now come in ‘chili tomato’ and lavender.

BURBERRY

Burberry CNY capsule collection 2021

Burberry is at it again with pieces that include trench coats, sporty items, pumps, sneakers, rain boots, scarves, sunglasses, baseball caps accented with horns. They even have pieces available for kids which include jackets, skirts, shirts, and pants so you can dress up your little ones in style for the auspicious CNY celebrations.

COACH

For the lunar New Year, Coach’s selection is a combination of stylish and youthful pieces. The graphic is juxtaposed against the brand’s signature canvas emblazoned on both men’s and women’s collections, including T-shirts, hoodies, bags, a scarf, and a bag charm.

DIOR

Continuing its partnership with Shawn Stussy, Dior has unveiled an exclusive men’s capsule collection bearing the emblem of the ox alongside minimalist graffiti-style signatures of Dior and Shawn.

The collection includes sweaters, jersey hoodies, an overshirt, vintage bombers, and bags that merge counterculture and the sportswear universe while paying homage to the totem animal of the Chinese zodiac in 2021.

FENDI

Fendi’s Year of the Ox-themed collection is comprised of an elegant assortment of jewelry and accessories, with a particularly covetable baguette bag featuring Maison’s signature FF monogram in dreamy shades of pink and red. The collection exudes an air of elegance, romance, and most importantly, success.

GUCCI

 Gucci, the Italian luxury fashion house revealed a 50-piece collection from the Doraemon x Gucci collaboration ranging from bags, Ready-to-wear pieces, to accessories. The capsule collection is part of the brand’s Chinese New Year collection which features the titular character from Fujiko Fujio’s beloved manga and anime series, Doraemon. The popular character is a cat-shaped robot that arrived from the 22nd century to both help and torments his best friend, Nobita, using a plethora of gizmos stashed inside his “four-dimensional pouch.”

KATE SPADE NEW YORK

To kick off the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Ox, Kate Spade New York has partnered with Disney to bring the iconic Clarabelle & Friends characters to life in an assortment of ready to wear, handbags, small leather goods, and accessories. Inspired by Clarabelle and her playful group of famous friends, the 6-piece collection features classic Kate Spade New York silhouettes; all re-imagined highlighting each unique character, including Clarabelle, Minnie Mouse, and Daisy Duck.

 Michael Kors releases its 2021 Lunar New Year collection celebrating the spirit of togetherness and spending time with the ones you love. With fewer people traveling home for the holiday, this year’s campaign focuses on bringing a sense of home to you, wherever you are celebrating. Drawing inspiration from classic Chinese cinema, the vibrant stills and video vignettes capture those cherished moments and age-old traditions that make Lunar New Year so special—gathering around the dinner table with family and friends, sharing your favorite foods, and enjoying a cup of tea & sweets after the meal. Prada joins the celebration with its campaign ‘Enter 2021. New Possibilities’ which invites everyone to open the door to the new year together and share their resolutions for the months ahead. This symbolic entrance features some leading names from the worlds of entertainment and fashion: singer Cai Xu Kun, winner of Best New Artist of the Year at the GQ Men of the Year Awards; actress Chun Xia, who was named Best Actress at the Hong Kong Film Awards for her role in Port of Call, and actress Zheng Shuang, the nominee of Best New Performer at Hong Kong Film Awards.

SAINT LAURENT

Saint Laurent has given the 2021 zodiac a few different takes, from ox silhouettes that can be found on T-shirts and card cases, to ox-print on bags and boots, to horn bracelets and necklaces.

VERSACE

Versace’s CNY 2021 collection doesn’t come in auspicious colors or ox-themed prints. Instead, the Italian Maison unveiled its new take on the Medusa Amplified motif that highlights rolling Medusa discs in two colorways—black-and-gold, and another in a combination of pastel shades. The discs come in two distinct color palettes, the first being pastel shades of violet, baby blue, mint green, and sunny yellow, and another in classic black and gold.
