MEET DISNEY’S VERY FIRST SOUTHEAST ASIAN PRINCESS IN “RAYA AND THE LAST DRAGON” TRAILER

Disney just dropped its trailer for an upcoming animated film Raya and The Lost Dragon.

According to reports, Raya is going to be Disney’s first Southeast Asian princess and was written by Malaysian-born, United States-based screenwriter Adele Lim has been pushed back to March 2021.

The movie is set in the fictional land of Kumandra and follows a lone warrior named Raya (Kelly Marie Tran) who must track down the last dragon in order to save her kingdom. The dragon in question is Sisu (voiced by Awkwafina), a water dragon who can transform into a human and who needs Raya’s help to reclaim her true power.

The movie is also from the producers of Moana and Frozen, Osnat Shurer,  so kids and adults can expect a lot from this new animated movie.

The trailer schemes through scenic shots of what seemed to be a Star Wars-themed desert, action clips of Raya versus a masked opponent, and of course ending the clip with a glimpse of Sisu.

Raya and the Last Dragon certainly feel like a movie that belongs on the big screen, so let us all hope that by next March that option is back on the table.
