Walk like you have three men walking Behind you- Oscar Dela Renta
The fashion industry lost another feather on its wing. Oscar Dela Renta at the age of 82 passed away last Monday, October 20, reports hasn’t showed the cause of his death, however, in 2006 Dela Renta was diagnosed to be suffering from cancer.
The American fashion designer was trained by Cristobal Balenciaga and Antonio del Castillo. He then became internationally known in the 60’s as one of the couturiers to dress Jacqueline Kennedy and has worked for brands like Lanvin and Balmain.
de la Renta is renowned in making red carpet-ready gowns, evening wear and dressing up Hollywood celebrities like Cameron Diaz, Anne Hathaway, Emma Watson, Oprah Winfrey and Sarah Jessica Parker to name some. His recent work includes the wedding gown of George Clooney’s wife Amal Alamuddin last month.
A year before, at the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), Executive Director Fern Mallis called him “The Sultan of Suave.” At that event, he spoke of his cancer, saying,
“Yes, I had cancer. Right now, I am totally clean. The only realities in life are that you are born, and that you die. We always think we are going to live forever. The dying aspect we will never accept. The one thing about having this kind of warning is how you appreciate every single day of life.” (wikipedia.com)
Oscar de la Renta will be sorely missed by the industry but his great work will truly last forever.
