Squid Game has taken the chart lead on Netflix Philippines. With its gripping plot and story, the series has gained tremendous popularity racking millions of watch hours in the popular streaming platform Netflix since its premiere last September 17.
Squid Game is inspired by a Korean children’s game and revolves around a mysterious survival game and starring Lee Jung-Jae. In Squid Game, 456 participants sign up to play a game each day in hopes of winning the pot money of 45.6 million won or $38 million. The title is inspired by a children’s game, in which players draw different geometric shapes on the ground and play until there is one final winner.
To date, Squid Game’s popularity has exploded not only in Asia but also in the United States, as of September 27, the drama also ranked the No. 1 show in the ‘U.S Netflix’s top 10 in the U.S list today’ pushing “Sex Education” to the number two spot. It’s the first-ever Korean drama to achieve this record.
