Outside, the morning light was soft, casting a golden glow over Ayala Heights. A humid breeze drifted through the air, complementing the energy inside the studio. Stylists busily arranged a rack of suits, while assistants stacked boxes of designer shoes for the shoot.
Then, suddenly, the velvet maroon curtain parted—and there he was.
Daniel Matsunaga stepped inside, effortlessly commanding attention. Clad in a simple black V-neck tee and a pair of indigo jeans, he exuded understated elegance. His classic Louis Vuitton shades added a touch of mystery as he waded through the studio, greeting everyone with a warm smile.
A dashing demigod, indeed—charismatic, graceful, and ready to conquer greater heights.
A Decade in the Spotlight
At 25, the Brazilian-Japanese model is no stranger to the industry. With a career spanning nearly a decade, Daniel has earned the respect and admiration of fans and brands alike. From towering billboards to numerous endorsements and editorial spreads in over ten countries, his track record is nothing short of impressive.
We sat down with Daniel Matsunaga for an exclusive interview to talk about his roots, career, and personal life—plus, his take on style, fitness, and romance.
“I Love Almost Everything About Brazil”
What do you love most about Brazil?
“I love spending summer in Brazil! The beaches, the food, and of course, the people. Brazilians are just as warm and cheerful as Filipinos. That’s why I feel at home here in the Philippines.”
We see that you’re very close to your family. How do you stay connected with them back in Brazil?
“You’re right, we’re a fun bunch! I’m extremely close to my family. For ten years, my mom used to call me almost every day! I always miss them.”
“The Philippines Has the Best Beach Destinations”
You’ve been living in the Philippines for quite some time now. What’s your favorite beach destination?
“I’ve been to Subic, Batangas, and Quezon, but I absolutely love Boracay and Palawan. Each place has its own charm, and they make me appreciate this country even more.”
“I Train Every Day to Stay Fit”
How do you maintain your physique?
“I work out daily and play sports. I’m a midfielder for Stallion Sta. Lucia in the United Football League, so I train every morning for about 2-3 hours. I also hit the gym to tone my muscles. I don’t smoke, and I rarely drink. Whenever I have tapings or castings, I just keep myself busy on Instagram or browsing the internet.”
“I Feel Flattered, Syempre!”
How do you feel when girls scream your name and hail you as one of the hottest celebrities in the country?
“I feel flattered, syempre! And of course, I’m very thankful that people appreciate me. Not everyone gets that kind of recognition.”
What do you think is the sexiest part of your body?
“I’d say my chest and abdominals. I work hard to keep up with the industry’s demands, so staying fit is a priority.”
“I Want to Grow as an Actor”
What’s next for Daniel Matsunaga?
“I want to explore acting workshops to hone my craft. Showbiz is fun, and while it’s more challenging than modeling, I won’t be leaving fashion anytime soon. I’d also love to work with Anne Curtis, Solenn Heussaff, Angel Locsin, and Sam Pinto!”
“My Ideal Girl Has a Nice Smile and a Good Scent”
Do you have an ideal type?
“I don’t have a strict checklist, but I’m attracted to girls with smooth skin, a good scent, and a nice smile. Personality is important too, so I prefer getting to know someone first.”
“Style Should Be Simple Yet Elegant”
How would you describe your style?
“I love keeping it simple yet sleek and elegant. I don’t go over the top—I stick to classic, timeless pieces. One thing’s for sure, though: I never leave the house without my sunglasses!“
What’s your style secret to standing out in a crowd?
“Wear heels! Kidding! Honestly, good grooming is key. Stay neat and clean, work out, and take care of your hair. I believe that when you feel good about yourself, it shows on the outside.”
