THIS UBE CHEESE ENSAYMADA IS GOING TO TAKE YOUR APPETITE BY STORM

Anyone who has a knack for sweets and bread understands the craving to try out something new from time to time. With over ten months into quarantine, we have already tried different food that has crossed Tiktok or has successfully etched a mark in the food quarantrend list of 2020, including desserts. You can’t definitely deny that trying out new food can give you the most pleasurable moments.

This 2021, we are giving you yet another delectable treat that you must try this new year. Introducing the Ube Cheese Ensaymada.

Ensaymada is a very popular Filipino pastry similar to brioche. It is usually enjoyed as an afternoon snack and has a rich and tender crumb yet soft and tasty piece.

Just like any great Filipino food, every Filipino family has their own secret recipe for making this treat which is passed on from generation to generation.

Ensaymada is supposed to be slathered with generous amounts of butter, then sprinkled with lots and lots of sugar and grated cheese.

This time, the popular Filipino merienda snack which you can easily buy at any panaderia has got an upgrade that will topple and give your usual ensaymada a ran for its money.

We sat down with Teen Pangwi, the lady behind this sumptuous ensaymada, and quizzed her about the story behind her quarantine creation.

What was your inspiration for making Ube Cheese ensaymada?

Filipinos are generally a big fan of anything cheesy, and we have found out how rich our country is when it comes to purple yam supply -This is something that we didn’t know when we were creating our own version of Ube Cheese Pandesal, until today. We get our bountiful source from Baguio and Bataan. Ensaymada is everyone’s favorite so we thought of combining them in our own version, not too sweet, creamy, and still delicious. We are happy to say that this has now become our customers’ favorite.

Was the process of baking Ube Cheese ensaymada is as tedious as making Ube Cheese Pandesal?

Developing this took 6weeks. When we finally came up with the final product, we made sure not to skimp on any ingredient. It had to be really cheesy and the purple yam toppings must be in their perfect size.

One factor to consider in making this is the right heat when baking – it had to be exact on all sides or you might get dry or unevenly cooked bread.

We grate loads and loads of cheese manually which takes time but it is otherwise a very easy bread to make.

What sets your Ensaymada from other ensaymadas in the market?

Just like our Ube Cheese Pandesal, one thing that we are proud to say -and our customers can attest to that- is that we are very generous with the ingredients that we put in each piece. There is a lot of Ube ensaymada in the market wherein they only add food flavoring or coloring to achieve a great look. We believe that the appeal is only secondary to complete the whole experience. It is still essential to make taste the top priority. With that, we are proud to say that each ensaymada in our shop gets a generous amount of ingredients in order for our customers to fully enjoy.
