Disney‘s 1997 gem from the Olympus is getting a live-action remake. All hail to the Gods and Goddesses, our summons and prayers have been answered when The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the latest adaptation on April 30. The Russo Brothers are said to be the producers of the film alongside Dave Callaham to do the screenwriting.
This announcement comes a week right after Disney released Ariana Grande’s performance of “I won’t Say I’m In Love” on ABC Family’s Disney family Singalong segment.
The animated film follows the story of Hercules, a son of gods, who was was snatched as a baby by Hades and forced to live among mortals as a half-man, half-god. As a teenager, Herc needs to perform a rite of passage on Earth to prove himself worthy of living with the gods on Mount Olympus. The film features timeless Disney music like Go the Distance and The Gospel Truth which was performed by the muses.
Now, the big question that went abuzz on social media was, who should play the Hercules characters in the live0-action remake? We have some ideas not too far from what spilled over Twitter. Tell us what you think and vote if it’s a yay or a nay.
HERCULES
It’s always fun to see underrated Hollywood actors play iconic characters. You might remember Jordan Burtchette playing John Ambrose Mclaren on the first “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” film before the role eventually went to Jordan Fisher on the 2nd installment of the Netflix movie. If we’re talking about looks. We’d like to think that Jordan fits the role as the son of Zeus. With his mesmerizing eyes and those perfectly plastered dimples, anyone would fall for his charm, just like mighty Herc. Another charming contender for the fans is Noah Centineo, imagine his muy Sympatico looks gracing the silver screen to play the role, needless to say, his naturally curled hair which comes in handy to swoon ladies from all across the world.
MEGARA
After her Disney-Singalong performance of “I Won’t Say I’m In Love” people have been rooting for Ariana Grande to also play the part. Well, we won’t disagree. With her soothing vocals, Ariana is a natural shoo-in for the role which made her fans more convinced that she was born to be Megara. Another candidate has won over twitter petition and that is Elizabeth Gillies, who happens to be a part of “Victorious” with Ariana Grande too. Elizabeth’s sassy portrayal as Fallon Carrington might also be the reason why people see her as Meg and the fact that she’s got a killer voice too.
THE MUSES
Who’ll play the muses are one of the internet’s most interesting discussions. Fans have pretty much high standards for this particular role as the five ladies basically carried the whole musicality of the film. Names that are all over the internet are Glee’s Amber Riley, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Rowland, Janelle Monae, and Keke Palmer. Some also suggested Nicole Scherzinger of the Pussycat Dolls.
Regardless, this bunch all have the qualities that’d match the muses: They are all gorgeous and powerful vocals, all rolled into one.
HADES
For the film’s villain, Benedict Cumberbatch wins the heart of the many. This multi-talented actor has all the ammunition to wing the role of the God of the underworld, Hades.
PHIL
For the role of the prickly Satyr, Phil. Only one name pops up on everyone’s mind, Danny De Vito, who also played as the original voice of the character. Fans believe that only Danny can portray the role so well.
