HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN DO TO DUPLICATE FACEBOOK ACCOUNTS

On Sunday, Facebook probed an investigation after receiving complaints from several Filipino users who have reported incidents of duplicate, dummy accounts.

In an article, Facebook shared that they are encouraging people to report any accounts they believe may be inauthentic through their easy-to-use reporting tools. The company also added that it has invested millions of dollars and deploys sophisticated technology to proactively identify and remove fake accounts from Facebook.

Technology may seem friendly from the outside but it is also a breeding ground for perpetrators and fraudulent scammers if not used responsibly.

Up until now, Social media platforms are big black holes yet to be deciphered by many.

Cybercriminals all over the world are using social media to commit crimes through fake identities and illegal activities online to amass huge amounts of money. Other’s use it to hack a system to bring down a group or company or to show protests to harm others.

Often times the person’s hijacked identity leads to aghast circumstances that may compromise the person or worst put into jail if he or she cant prove innocence to the cybercrime committed on the worldwide web.

With that, here are easy steps to follow to keep your Facebook account safe from these cyber perpetrators.

how to Report fake accounts

Accounts pretending to be someone you know or someone who doesn’t exist can be reported, according to Facebook.

  • Go to the profile of the fake account
  •  Click on the three dots (•••) under the cover photo and select “Find Support or Report Profile.”
  • Follow the on-screen instructions for fake accounts to file a report.

How to report a Page

  • Open the Facebook app for iOS or Android.
  • Go to the impersonating Page.
  • Click on the three dots (•••) from the top right and select Find Support or Report Page.
  • Select Scams and Fake Pages.
  • Select the option that best describes the impersonating Page.
  • Tap Send.

how to Report as “Pretending to be someone”

  • Go to the profile of the fake account
  •  Click on the three dots (•••) under the cover photo and select “Find Support or Report Profile.”
  • Click Pretending to someone and click your answer to the Facebook question “Who are they pretending to be?”
  • It will show three options: Me, A Friend, Celebrity
    • If you have selected “Me”. You will be redirected to the next page.
    • If you have selected “A Friend”. Facebook will prompt you to select the original person whom the fake account is copying.
    • If you have selected “Celebrity”. Facebook will prompt you to a log box to key in the name of the celebrity.
  • Afterwhich, you proceed with the option “Report Profile” then click the Report button.
