Music fans couldn’t help but notice and share their amazement when they heard Kemrie Barcenas’ voice doing song covers of International Pop superstar Taylor Swift on short-form video application Tiktok.
The 18-year-old and a self-confessed Taylor Swift fan, went viral when she posted her covers of Back To December and Love Story on her account.
“I started singing Taylor’s songs when I first heard, Love Story. I knew she was going to be one of my inspirations.” Barcenas shared in our exclusive interview.
Because of Kemrie’s uncanny voice similarity with her favorite singer and following the viral video, local fans instantly dubbed her as the Taylor Swift ng Pinas.
Kemrie shares that she is a self-taught singer, “I learned to sing by myself. I was never taught by vocal coaches or professionals because of my fear of people listening to me,” she says.
Believe it or not, Kemrie is truly blessed with a beautiful voice and shares that she didn’t intentionally want to sound like her Idol, “It’s funny because I had that compliment before and I ignored it for many years. Until I made that video on TikTok,” she shares. “It was the only time that I have mentioned it on camera that some of my friends would say that I kind of sound like her (Taylor Swift). People were shocked, and I was shocked too especially when it went viral.” She added.
Kemrie also shares the reasons why she’s a fan of Taylor Swift. Enumerating how the Pop superstar, apart from her musicality, is an authentic artist who shares her feelings through songs.
“I am going to be ridiculously speechless and will be a cry baby in front of her (Taylor Swift). I’d tell her that I’ve been wanting to see her since then and I love her so much,” She quips when asked what will be her initial reaction given a chance to meet Taylor Swift in person. “I think I would never calm myself down even for a duet because tears will always be streaming down my face. But I think her “The Best Day” is great.” She excitedly added when asked about her ideal song duet with Taylor.
